Heidi Dress: Spring Garden

This sweet little dress is an order for a lovely one year old baby girl. I added a cute little gathered pocket at one side for her to keep her little treasures :-)A pair of matching hairclips to complete the look :-) Thanks, HL for the order, and hope that your little niece love the dress! :-)

Cheongsam: Cherry Seeds

Festive, modern, with a touch of tradition.

Playful, twirly, yet demure.

With its qualities of both modern and traditional, this dress whirls effortlessly from the primness of a customary tea ceremony to the liveliness of a casual dance party.

There are many things that I feel excited about this little dress. There's this darling neckline adorned with red silky edges and 3 pairs of the most adorable frog buttons in the shape of Chinese melons. The wide sash that ties as a big red bow behind...

And the light frills that edge the bottom of the full skirt.
Of course the little detachable brooch at the sash is pretty cute too, which matches well with its hairclip (the airhead in me forgot to snap pictures of the hairclip)

Cheongsam: Cherry Seeds
Materials: 100% Japanese cotton, satin bias tape, satin Chinese frog buttons, satin ribbons, polyester frills

Modern Cheongsam: Strawberry

This is also a repeat order from a lovely customer. Last year for Chinese New Year 2011, she bought the same design of modern cheongsam in Red for her eldest daughter. This year (CNY 2012), she bought a pair of the same modern cheongsams in Strawberry for both her lovely princesses :-). This design is very versatile. Can be worn as a dress now and as your child grows, it can be worn as a tunic with leggings.
A babydoll dress with a traditional twist of Mandarin collars and Chinese buttons. I also love that the buttons resembles a pair of traditional melon bottles that ancient Chinese used to keep their water cool and refreshing :-) Modern Cheongsam: Strawberry
Materials: 100% soft combed premium cotton (imported from US), Chinese buttons

Cheongsam: Spring Garden

The best thing about this A-line cheongsam dress is I can never get bored making them :-). Although the design is similar, the combination of different fabric, satin piping and Chinese frog buttons always look fresh and new to me :-).
For this year's cheongsam dress, I've added darts along the middle of the dress, one each in front and behind. This will make the cheongsam dress more roomy and comfortable for active toddlers :-). As always, Spring Garden Cheongsam Dress comes with matching hairclips.
Thanks for the repeat order, Jocelyn, and hope your princess Annabelle loves the dress as much as I do :-)

Korean Hanbok

Besides Chinese Cheongsam, the Korean Hanbok is one of my most favourite traditional outfit :-)

I did my research and sewed it as close as possible to the traditional outfit.

Here's the outer jacket called jeogori. Materials used are 100% imported cotton and imported Taiwan sequin lace. I totally heart this sequin lace, and am beating myself up for not buying more to stash away. I tied the red ties, otkorum, the correct traditional way.
With it's dress, chima, the Korean Hanbok is complete. I used thick but cooling Chinese brocade. Chinese brocade is expensive but it provides richness to its outlook and fullness to the skirt. This brocade design is the perfect match for the Taiwan sequins on the outer jacket :-). Hope Mummy J and little Princess G love the outfit as much as I do :-).

Happy Dragon Year 2012

Source

Sorry for all the quiet.

I miss this space dearly, and would love to update more often, but was too caught up to do anything more than updating nivniv Facebook page now and then. Between Christmas to Chinese New Year is always the bussiest time of the year for nivniv Handmade. This year was especially hectic, as Christmas and CNY were just one month apart!

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my dear customers and friends for your repeat orders. I had the pleasure of revisiting some of my current designs, and sewing them again gave me a familiar feeling of contentment :-).

I was also excited in designing some new dresses, which I can hardly wait to share with you in my future posts. Hope you will like them as much as I do :-).

Here's wishing you a very Happy Chinese New Year. May the year of Dragon 2012 brings you and your loved ones abundant of happiness, health, prosperity, and togetherness. Gong Xi Fa Cai! :-)

Model Wannabe

Since young, my daughter QQ, loves dressing up and modeling for the camera. Recently, she had the opportunity to do so for a profile shoot (which I am not able to do share now!). I snapped alongside; these blurry shots are from my iPhone.

Here's my model wannabe posing :-)

The demure pose. The cool and confident pose.

Now she's getting quite comfortable, and doing more and more poses...Later she added some unconventional ones...Haha... here's her doing the ostrich walk. With her tongue in action :-DAnd... hahaha! I don't know what pose this is. Also with that tongue action. I find it just plain funny :-PNote:

I made this Red Modern Cheongsam for QQ for CNY celebration when she was 2.5 years old. Now that she is 4.5 years old, she is still able to wear it as a tunic.

Customized Pouches

This is a customised order from a dear childhood friend, Soo Fong :-).

She loves the fabric combo as the ones we have for iPhone cozy, but wanted the pouches to be bigger. All the other features; buttoned flaps, removable straps and back buttoned pockets are the same as the iPhone cozies, only bigger :-) Thanks, Soo Fong!
